LIVING ROOM IN THE MEDITERRANEAN STYLE. Characteristic features of the style.

A LOT OF AIR AND LIGHT
No matter which of the «sub-styles» you choose for your living room, be prepared for the fact that big windows — this is the first step towards a successful image of Mediterranean interior. It may happen that you will have to expand or «extend» the window openings because in the original reading, the style does not accept constraint and lack of space.
There should be a sensation as if your living room almost forms a single whole with the environment, to achieve this, try, for example, to make one window of two, one window, but large. In private homes it is much easier to make it than in apartments, because they do not require a permit of courts.
Often in Mediterranean houses windows occupy a large area of the walls, bringing guests to the garden or terrace.

Natural materials
In all that relates to the lining and filling the living room you should use natural clean materials, or, in some cases, their successful imitation.
Floor of the living room is finished with ceramic tiles, natural or artificial stone, wooden boards or laminate with a rough texture.
Exclude wallpaper, paneling, moldings — in Mediterranean interior they are not relevant, you just need to plaster and cover all the walls with light paint, including the ceiling. Please note that wooden beams in its design are equally essential feature of the Mediterranean interior as large windows. The wood for this purpose is chosen rough, as if soaked in sea salt, cracked, of gray-brown or natural light brown color.
In most cases, the color of the wooden beams echoes with the tone of doorways and window frames, which are also visually emphasized with wood. Metal is used in the form of forging, but only in the case where, as mentioned above, the interior of the living room is inclining to the Italian Mediterranean.

NATURAL PALETTE
Italian sound in the Mediterranean living room needs to saturate the interior with warm colors of the earth: terracotta, sand, beige, gray, brown, dark brown, cream, Naples yellow, and in addition to use green accents and black as an accent in a small amount.
Greeks prefer white colors in the outer and inner lining of the premises for a reason, in a hot climate it is the best way to cope with the effect of bright sunshine, without absorbing its rays, only reflecting them.
In the living room in addition to white use of piercing turquoise, azure, blue, cobalt, bright yellow and lemon, light terracotta, straw and sand, pale green colors. Against the background of neutral natural shades, colors of sea and sun in accessories emphasize the character of Mediterranean living room.
